Livwell joined Finsbury Food Group in April 2008, when the Group purchased the trade and assets of Yorkshire Farm Bakery and A & P Foods. YFB is the one of the UK’s leading manufacturers of gluten free breads and morning goods, and is located on a freehold site in Hull. A & P Foods shares the same site, and produces gluten free pre mixes for YFB, and also United Central Bakeries Ltd, which is also part of the existing Finsbury Group. Both businesses were purchased from the Arnett family, three of whom will be remaining with the business.
Sales for the year to March 2008 are expected to exceed £8.50m, and in a Free From market which is predicted to double in the next five years the opportunity for continued strong growth is significant. With the strong trade supplying the UK's leading multiple grocers well established, the opportunity to diversify into the medical prescription market and overseas into Europe is very exciting.
History
The YFB business started trading in 1983 as a general wholesale bakery. In 2000, the business entered the gluten free market and has now developed into a dedicated gluten free site. A & P has been trading since 2005. The businesses employ over 100 people and primarily focus their sales upon the UK’s major multiple grocers from where they derive over two thirds of total sales.
In 2007, the family decided that the business had grown as big as it could under family control and to ensure the potential that had been developed was fully exploited, it was felt that the business was better suited to thriving in larger Group. Having worked with Finsbury since the Group bought UCB in late 2005, this seemed a natural union.
Now, by joining UCB to create a gluten free division focussed on making great products which are "Free From" and really good to eat, the Livwell business is ready to really rock.
